JULY - PLEASE NOTE 

We have just been made aware by the Local Authority that a section of the Monsal Trail will be closed Monday to Friday starting on Wednesday 9^th July, for emergency trail works, for approximately two weeks, HOWEVER A SHORT WALKING OR CYCLING DIVERSION ROUTE IS AVAILABLE.

UPDATE 11TH JULY - THE CLOSURE OF THE TRAIL WILL NOW CONTINUE OVER THE WEEKEND ALSO , THE 12TH & 13TH OF JULY

We are making you aware as you may want to consider if you still want to go ahead with your booking. We will honour any cancellations and refund /discount accordingly.

There are two alternative diversions around the closed section.

There is a 3.75 km (12 minute) diversion suitable for all bikes on quiet roads through Great Longstone, Little Longstone, Monsal Head and down in to Upperdale to rejoin the Monsal Trail.

There is a 1km (6 minute) diversion around the closure which will involve getting off the bike to walk down a short section of rocky bridleway which is quite steep in places and then lifting the bike over a bollard to cross a footbridge.

This diversion is NOT suitable for heavy eBikes or kids trailers/tag-a-longs, or if you are not confident walking with a bike on uneven terrain.

The rest of the trail is open as usual.

If you do not wish to take the diversion it is still possible to ride the 2.5miles to the iconic Headstone tunnel and viaduct and back, and take in the magnificent views. And also going the other way towards Bakewell. Our staff will advise you when you are hiring and give you a route map of the diversion. This map will also be available on our social media. Screenshot the map as there is limited phone signal on that part of the trail.
